We are contracted by Andrew MacFarlane to haul, windrow, mix and spread compost.
This compost is made by mixing Farmyard Manure (FYM) and the paper crumble by-product from the paper making process.
As with the biosolids, delivery, composting, spreading, and a soil sample are all free of charge, the only cost may be for shifting muck Out of middens with our own equipment.
The crumble is removed from two paper mills in Abedeenshire almost every day of the year. Once a site has reached capacity we then ‘Line’ the paper and FYM up into windrows which are then turned 4 times with a composter to ensure a good compost quality. The Finished compost is then spread with rear discharge muck spreaders, either onto grass, or ploughed down before cropping.
Typically the compost provides 1t lime per acre with a spreading rate of 10-20t per acre of compost, slow release N is also available For a few years after application.
